Why Plastic Playing Cards?

There are several reasons to choose high quality plastic playing cards over your standard issue paper cards (i.e. Bicycle, Bee, Aviator, etc.). You must also be aware of knock off plastic brands that are merely paper cards with a plastic film over them (i.e. Royal, etc). These cards often times may appear as if they survived a spill but the moisture still gets to the paper and after a few minutes they begin to warp.

  • Plastic Playing Cards are resistant to water! Also resistant to beer, juice, and basically any other liquid you may be drinking near them. We all have had that accidental spill that ruined a deck of cards. Now if there is a spill you just rinse with water, wipe dry, and get back to playing.
  • Plastic Playing Cards are much more difficult to crease, tear, chip, or break. Is it impossible to have these things happen to Plastic cards? No. But it is much less likely. Dal Negro, Da Vinci, and Copag have the best resistance to these effects. I have taken these cards, and struck them on their side against a metal corner and been able to rub out any crease that develops. Paper cards, and plastic coated cards will be creased permanently or will tear. Kem's will break in half. (This is one of the big reason we do not carry Kem playing cards).
  • Plastic Playing Cards shuffle and deal great! Some people it takes a little getting used to because you are used to the feel of paper cards, but after a few games most people would never go back to paper. Dal Negro Torcello's are the thickest and typically easiest to get used to when making the switch from paper to plastic. Although they are very smooth and slide very well, depending on your shuffling style. All other Dal Negro's and Da Vinci's are similar, Copag's are a bit thinner, but sometimes seem a pretty easy adjusting card. Gemaco's are typically pretty glossy and may slide a lot.
  • Plastic Playing Cards will last a long time! How long? 40-50x longer than a standard paper deck. You can clean them once they start getting dirty. Warm soapy water and a rag, and they are back to new. Our first deck we used for well over a year of more than once a week playing before we opted to switch.

There are some strong points for Plastic Playing Cards... figuring a deck of Bicycle is $3-5, and a deck of Plastic Cards are $7-8. Even if the deck lasted twice as long you are getting a good deal!
